If you want joy, learn to grieve.
Focusing on good vibes won’t get you there. Neither will pushing the positive. Nor will denying what’s true in your nervous system.
Real joy is built by making room for what’s true. All of what’s true. And having the capacity to live bigger than your circumstances.
What is joy?
Joy is a deep and abiding yes to life, built through grief work, and steady enough to meet whatever life brings.
How do you get to joy?
My self-guided introductory grief course, Time Doesn’t Heal All Wounds, teaches you how to grieve in a practical, body-aware way, so you can build the capacity to hold all of your life and stay open inside it.

The Problem
If you’ve tried to stay positive and it hasn’t worked, nothing is wrong with you. You’re just not doing what helps you get where you want to be.
It’s the challenge of being raised in a grief-phobic culture:
- We treat discomfort like danger
- We privatize pain and rush people through it
- We call it strength when someone is functional, even if they are shutting down inside
Ungrieved life doesn’t disappear. It shows up as anxiety, numbness, irritability, disconnection, overworking, collapsing, or a quiet feeling that joy is out of reach.
In other words, the very things society teaches us to do actually makes things worse. It sets us up for failure and then shames us when we fail.
The counterintuitive reframe
Joy isn’t the absence of sorrow. Joy is what becomes possible when sorrow is allowed to move.
Grief work doesn’t make you more negative. Grief work makes you more real and more capable.
People with a cultivated grief practice:
- Can feel without getting consumed by their feelings
- Can be present without forcing it
- Can stay connected to themselves and others
- Can metabolize what life brings instead of bracing against it
That’s how joy becomes sturdy.
What “Time Doesn’t Heal All Wounds” really is
Time Doesn’t Heal All Wounds is a self-guided online course that gives you a clear, grounded path for grief-tending.
It’s for people who want:
- practical grief literacy (not theory-only)
- nervous-system-aware tools (gentle, consent-centered)
- simple practices that fit real life
- a way to build capacity over time
What you’ll walk away with
By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
- Understand why “time heals all wounds” fails people
- Recognize how grief lives in the body and nervous system
- Practical simple, repeatable grief-tending rituals (no performance required)
- Build a person plan for support, so you’re not doing life alone
- Create more inner space for peace, gratitude, aliveness, and joy
How it works
- Self-guided: start anytime
- Go at your pace: pause, repeat, return on wave days
- Gentle counts: small practices are valid
- Build for real life: not a life overhaul
Safety + boundaries
This course is education and coaching support, not therapy, not mental health treatment, or crisis care.
Consent matters. You are always invited to go at your own pace, skip any practice, and stop an exercise if you feel overwhelmed.
If you are in immediate danger or considering self-harm, contact local emergency services or a local crisis resource right now.
About Joe
I’ve spent the last decade alongside grief, walking with people in some of the most tender rooms of their lives.
I’m not here to rush you, fix you, or sell you positivity. I’m here to offer a grounded way to build the capacity that makes real joy possible.
Most importantly, I know this works because it’s my story.
- I spent decades traumatized by the unresolved pain of the past. Suffering from loses I couldn’t name. Desperately seeking any solution, even a temporary one, to help me stabilize my inner world.
- Even after I turned to therapy, be it cognitive, EMDR, somatic, or a range of other practices, I couldn’t seem to put all the pieces together until I developed a grief practice.
- Grief work made me who I am today. And who I am today is joyful. I live with a deep and abiding yes to life, whatever my external circumstances happen to be (and I’ve held it through the death of my father, the loss of a job, and a significant injury that all came within 10 weeks in 2025).
So, if you are ready to build the kind of joy that can hold your whole life, purchase Time Doesn’t Heal All Wounds today.
